How to Efficiently Use the New Pokémon Go Buddy Feature
With version 0.37.0 of Pokémon Go for iOS and Android came a new feature allowing a Pokémon trainer to choose a Pokémon of their liking as their buddy. What’s neat about this feature is depending on the Pokémon that is chosen, the trainer will be rewarded a candy for that Pokémon for every 1, 3, or 5 kilometers walked. This sounds great especially for those hard to find Pokémon that require a high amount of candy to evolve, or existing Pokémon that a trainer wants to make stronger.
At first it may seem that the game has been made easier. But the truth is, a lot of work will still be needed in order to really benefit from the new buddy system. The Pokémon which gain one candy for every one kilometer walked are mostly common Pokémon, with the exception of Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Magikarp, and a few others. Most of the desired Pokémon give one candy per three or five kilometers walked. Unless a Pokémon is close to evolving, a trainer may be walking for a long time before getting the 50 or 100 pieces of candies needed to evolve the Pokémon.
Depending on what a Pokémon trainer’s goal is, there are different strategies that can be taken to make the most out of the Pokémon Go buddy system. Whether the buddy system is used to help complete your Pokédex, power up your favorite Pokémon, or used to gain XP faster, the links below should help you decide whether it’s worth the time and effort.
