You may have caught an awesome Snorlax. When you first got it, your Pokémon was unstoppable. But as you increased in level, and as time passed, your 633CP Snorlax can’t compete with all of the 2000CP Dragonites and Gyarados out there. Or maybe all you want is a really strong Blastoise, but you live in the desert and Squirtles are impossible to find, but you happened to find one randomly hatched from an egg.
For cases like these, one can really benefit from the Buddy System. Although assigning your Snorlax as your buddy will only get you one candy for every 5km walked, its still better than finding no candy after weeks of hoping another Snorlax would pop up in your neighborhood.
