Using the Buddy System to Complete Your Pokédex

The requirement to completing your Pokédex is having at least one of the each of the Pokémon type you want to evolve. For example, if you want a Kabutops, you will need at least one Kabuto to get you going. Also, the rare and legendary Pokémon such as the Snorlaxes, Lapras, etc, you will still need to catch one of each of these, or hatch one in an egg.

First, find out which of your harder to find Pokémon are close to evolving into something new and knock these out. For instance, if you are 2 candies away from evolving a Ponyta into a Rapidash, you will only need to walk 6km to accomplish your goal.

Next, look through the list of Pokémon that can gain you one candy per one kilometer walked, find the ones that have evolved forms you need, and evolve these guys to their final form. The 1km Pokémon are Caterpie, Weedle, Pidgey, Rattata, Spearow, Pikachu, Clefairy, Jigglypuff, Zubat, Geodude, and Magikarp. Most of these you have probably already evolved, but keep in mind that Geodude evolves twice, and Magikarp needs 400 candies to evolve!

Finally, start knocking out the 3km and 5km per candy buddies. Hopefully while doing all this walking, you have hatched a lot of eggs and caught some more of the Pokémon you need to reach your goal!

Using this strategy, it still may take you hundreds, or thousands of kilometers to reach your goal. But at least now you have some control over what candies you get towards something new to evolve your Pokémon into.
