Using the Buddy System to Gain XP Faster
The final strategy that will be covered is for those that want to use the buddy system to help gain XP faster. It has been proven that the fastest way to gain XP is by evolving your Pokémon. Any Pokémon. Each Pokémon evolved gets you 500XP. Couple that with a lucky egg, and you will be getting 1000XP per evolved Pokémon. So to take advantage of this, Pokémon trainers have been filling their bags with Pidgeys, Weedles, and Caterpie, and when they have 40 to 50 Pokémon ready to evolve, they will activate a Lucky Egg and just sit there evolving everything. Pidgeys, Weedles, and Caterpie cost only 12 candies to evolve, and it isn’t worth evolving them any further because for 50 candies, you could evolve four more Pidgeys.
Setting a Pidgey as your buddy will net you one Pidgey candy per one kilometer traveled. After you receive 12 candies, you can evolve your Pidgey. Granted, for this to work, you will need to keep catching Pidgeys to keep evolving
In the grand scheme of things, using the Buddy System is not a very effective tool in gaining XP any faster. You would be better off using it to help complete your Pokédex or powering up your favorite Pokémon.
